Coaches

Central

Neal Labaire – David Prouty
Began his coaching career in 1972 as an assistant football coach at David Prouty High School . After nine years as an assistant, he became Head coach in 1981. During his twenty-six years as head coach of David P:routy High School, he was also a sixth grade teacher at the Maple St. School and Wire Village School . Coach Labaire retired from teaching in June of 2007 after 34 years. This past Thanksgiving, Coach Labaire completed his 35 th years as David Prouty Footrball Coach and retired from coaching after the Thanksgiving Day game. Coach Labaire resides in East Brookfield , MA with his wife, Linda, and daughter, Alison.

Rob Berthiaume – David Prouty - is the Freshmen and junior Varsity coiach at David Prouty High School . He played defensive back at Prouty from 1991-1994 and began coaching under Neal Labaire in 2001, two years after graduating from Boston College . Berthiaume currently teaches 5th and 6th grade social studies at East Brookfield Elementary School . He has also coached Prouty's JV baseball team for the past 5 seasons.

Coach Longe resides in Sturbridge , MA with his wife, Crystal. They have 5 grown children and 2 grandchildren.

Philip Desroches -– David Prouty
Graduate of David Prouty Regfional High School : currently resides in Sturbridge , MA with his wife, Melissa, and daughters, Kaylee (age 12) and Amy (age 6). Employed at Saint-Gobain High Performance Materials in Northboro , MA , as a Sr. Research Assistant. Is currently President of the Tantasqua Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Association.

Marc Grady -– David Prouty
From 2001-2007, coach Grady served on Neal Labaire's staff at David Prouty High School, coaching defensive backs, linebackers, offensive line, receivers and kickers. From 2005-2007, Marc was responsible for the defensive play calling for the Panthers. Coach Grady previously coached football at Milbury Memorial Jr/Sr High School under Tom McKenney (1997) and Dave Pallazzi (1998), Assumption College(1996) under Mark Garrett, and Leicester high under Bob Nelson (1991-1994). Marc currently serves as the Assistant Athletic Director at David Prouty High School . Coach Grady graduated from Leicester High School in 1989, the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth in 1994 with a degree in history, and earned his Masters of Education from Worcester State College in 2003. He resides in Leicester .

John Andreoli – St John's
John returns to St. John's for his 5th year as head football coach, directing St. John's to a record of 34 wins, 13 losses. St. John's has won three Division I/IAA Central/Western MA Super Bowl Championships over the past four years.

John is a 1978 graduate of St. John's where he was a First Team Telegram & Gazette Central MA All-Star and member of the 1977 Saint John's Super Bowl Championship and 1975 Super Bowl teams. A 1982 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, John earned First Team Division I All New-England and All East Honors as a defensive end. He captained the Crusaders in his senior year and was elected to the Holy Cross Hall of Fame in 2000.

John played professionally for the Boston Breakers in the USFL and spent the 1984 season on injured reserve with the New England Patriots. He coached under the legendary Rick Carter at Holy Cross on the staff that included Mark Duffner (Jacksonville Jaguars), Kevin Coyle (Cincinatti Bengals), Frank Novak (Green Bay Packers), Dan Allen (Holy Cross/Boston University) and current Associate Head Coach, Pat White.

Pat White – St John's
A 1979 graduate of Norwich University , Pat returns to the St. John's sideline as Associate Head Coach with over thirty years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level within Division IAA, II and III programs. Pat served as defensive coordinator at WPI and Assumption College as well as an assistant under legendary coach Rick Carter at the College of the Holy Cross. Pat is currently the Dean of Students at St. John's and will work with the defensive backs.

Ed Savage – St John's
Ed returns to St. John's for the fifth year as offensive coordinator following eight successful seasons at St. John's as an assistant coach. Ed's tenure at St. John's started in 1975 as an assistant for coach Bob Bradley's Super Bowl teams of 1975 and 1977. He served as Head Coach both at North High School (winning the 1994 Worcester Inter-High Championship) and St. Peter-Marian from 1985-88. Ed has also guided Notre Dame Academy 's softball program to five Division 2 District Championships and returned as head coach of the Academy in 2007.

Rob Ginisi – St John's
A native of Worcester MA Rob brings several years of coaching experience into his third season at St. John's . Rob began his coaching career as North High School and with the Worcester Cowboys Pop Warner Football program. Rob was an outstanding player at North high School earning all city honors.

Bill Feraco – St John's
Bill graduated from St. John's in 1981 and went on to WPI where he was a three-year starter for the Engineers at offensive tackle. Bill was an offensive leader on the 1983 undefeated WPI team (one of three in the school's history). Bill earned a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering/Biotechnology in 1985. Bill served fifteen years as an assistant coach at Bay Path Regional High School . He led the Bay Path offense to nine Super Bowl appearances.

Greg Blondin – St John's
Greg returns to Saint John's for his seventh year as a football coach. A computer science teacher at St. John's , Greg will work with the offensive backs and receivers as well as coordinate the freshman offense.

Greg graduated from Worcester State College (BS Mathematics) in 1995 and received a Master of Education with a concentration in Computer Technology from Lesley College in 1998.

Bill Long – St John's
Bill returns to St. John's for his fifth season as Special Teams Coordinator and first as Defensive Coordinator. He joined the St. John's staff following a six year term as an assistant coach at Marlboro High School - three of which Bill served as Assistant Head Coach. Bill's defensive lines included two Central MA All Stars in 2004, and one in 2006 including James McGillicuddy (Stanford – PAC-10) and Greg Michon ( Norwich ) and Joe Young (Yale).

Paul Capstick – St John's
Paul returns to his fourth year on the St. John's football staff, and faculty member in the history department. Paul graduated from St. John's in 1975 following an outstanding football career, earning the Corsac Award as the most valuable lineman in the St. John's/St. Peter's Thanksgiving Day Game. Paul graduated from West Point and served in the U.S. Army's 82 nd Airborne Paratrooper Division for twenty-five years prior to joining the St. John's faculty. Paul retired with the rank of full Colonel in the U.S. Army.

 

Western

Joseph Dutsar - Dean Technical High School
Joe has coached high school football for 22 years and is the head coach at Dean Technical High School . Joe started the program in the fall of 2000 and has led the team to three consecutive bowl games. Prior to Dean, he was a longtime assistant coach at Holyoke High School and the head coach at Chicopee Comp for four years. Joe played four hears of football at Springfield College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1985. The New York native has one daughter, Gabriella, and resides in Enfield .

Ralph B. Webb - Dean Technical High School
Ralph Webb has always had a passion for football. So when the discussion turned to beginning a football team at Dean Technical High School in 1998, he volunteered his services and talent in starting this first-time team. Coach Webb is a co-founding coach of the Hawks, approved and begun in the year 2000. As a line Coach, Ralph is part of the prestigious team that won the 2005 Massachusetts Technical High School Football Bowl, and was two time participants in the Central and Western Massachusetts Super Bowl (2006 & 2007).

Coach Webb is a Certified Executive Chef by profession and currently a Chef Instructor and Department Head in the Culinary Arts Department of Dean Technical High School in Holyoke , Massachusetts .

Bob Lastowski
Played quarterback at Holyoke High School and Bates College . Graduate assistant at Bates for pre-season- 1974. Asst. coach at Kents hill School (Kents Hill, ME) 1974-1977. Freshman Head Coach at Cathedral ( Springfield , MA ) – 1979 Offensive coordinator, Holyoke High School- 1988-2002. Head Coach, Holyoke High School- 2003-present. Graduated Holyoke High School- 1970. Bates College (BA, 1974). The College of William and Mary (MA, 1980). Head basketball coach, Kents Hill, 1974-1978. Asst. baseball and track coach, Kents Hill, 1974-1978. Freshman basketball coach, Cathedral, 1979-80. JV basketball coach, Cathedral, 1980-1982 . Freshman basketball coach, Cathedral, 1980-1982. Freshman basketball coach, Holyoke High School, 1994-2003. Asst. track coach, Holyoke High School, 2001-present.

Dave Bennett
Dave graduated from Springfield College in 1967 where he was captain of the baseball and football teams. He quarterbacked the only undefeated, untied football team in Springfield 's history in 1965. He was selected first team All New England quarterback in 1965 and 1966, and earned first team All East Division II quarterback in 1966. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, had a tryout with the San Diego Chargers and played for six seasons in the Atlantic Coast Football League. He was inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Dave has coached on the secondary lever for 40 years. Twelve years were spent coaching in Los Angeles , California , where nine of his player went on to play Division I football, sent 23 players to the Ivy League and had one player make to the pros. Locally, his Minnechaug teams of 1983 and 1984 won back to back Western Mass Division I Superbowls. Since returning from California in 2000, he has been an assistant coach at several schools. In 2004, he was the offensive coordinator at WNEC. He has over 100 wins as a head coach and has the unique distinction as a coach and player of having been a member of six undefeated and untied football teams.

Fran Smith
Fran has coached high school football for thirty-two years, and is currently the defensive coordinator at Holyoke High School . He spent seventeen of those years as an assistant coach at Holyoke High School , running the defense and working with the offensive line. From 1997-1999, Fran took a leave from Holyoke and became the offensive coordinator at Westfield High School . He started his coaching career in 1975 at Sacred Heart High in Waterbury , Connecticut and coached there for twelve years.

Fran has also coached youth football for 10 years, high school & AAU girls basketball fro 9 years, and little league baseball for 7 years. Fran and his wife, Joyce, live in Westfield , Massachusetts with their three children- Aaron, Jackie and Corey.

Steve Dubilo
Steve graduated from Holyoke High school in 1961 and went on to earn a degree from Springfield College in 1965. Steve coached football for some 44 years. He spent the first 9 years coaching youngsters in the youth leagues. He then coached 10 years as an assistant for Holyoke High School , winning a Super Bowl title in 1982. For the next 18 years, Steve coached at South Hadley High School , serving as a defensive coordinator for the first 12 years. During his last 6 years as head coach at South Hadley , he guided the Tigers to their very first Super Bowl. He spent the final 7 years of his career at Dean Technical High School where he helped start the football program, serving as an offensive coordinator. Dean won the Small School Vocational State Super Bowl in 2005 and then went on to the MIAA Super Bowl in 2006. He is coming out of retirement to coach in this year's chowder bowl.

Scott Taylor
Scott is originally from California . He has been coaching high school and college football for the past 10 years.  He has coached at the varsity level at Amherst Regional High School , Dean Technical High School , and most recently, at South Hadley High School .  Scott spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons coaching at Western New England College where he coached the defensive line and strong safeties.  His most recent position is that of the varsity defensive coordinator for the South Hadley Tigers.  He is a resident of South Hadley where he lives with his wife Darlene and his children Bailey (7), Summer (3), and Kayden (2).

Eric Scammons:
Eric is a 1992 graduate of South Hadley High School where he excelled in football and track. He continued his athletic career at Boston College , earning a B.A. degree in 1996. Eric joined the staff at South Hadley High School in 1996 while working towards his M.Ed. at Springfield College . He has coached high school football for 12 years and is currently the offensive coordinator and secondary coach at South Hadley High. Coaching highlights include back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 2005 and 2006 with a Division 1A championship in 2005.  Eric is a teacher at Hampshire Regional High School and resides in Holyoke , MA with his wife Melissa.

Valdamar T. Brower:
Springfield Central High School Te Brower has coached at Central for three years. Coach Brower was named head coach of Springfield Central High March 31, 2008. 2005 Freshman, 2006 J.V. Coach, 2007 Varsity Defensive Coordinator, at Springfield Central High School. Strength and Conditioning Coach 2007-present, Assistant Track and Field Coach 2006-present, at Central. University of Massachusetts Defensive Line 1999-2003.
Played high school football for Northampton High School 1995-1998.
